Students learn how they best plan, study, and learn!
Part 3: Building independence

I integrate all of these into each session and use their current schoolwork so that they feel successful.
2) Study Skills Groups
A 6 session program where students learn essential study skills for school and beyond.

Every student will leave each session with: skill templates and a plan for how to tailor the strategies to their learning style and situations.

Sessions:
1) Planning

4) How/what to study

2) Time Management Best Practices

5) Efficient Study Strategies

3) Note-taking- why and how

6) Communicating with teachers, problem solving, and using your resources

3) Math Tutoring
I teach students math with two basic steps:
1) Create an individualized plan
Gather information from students, teachers and parents to identify what is getting in the way.
There are many skills in math: learning the content, applying steps to problems, planning and solving word problems, mathematical accuracy. It is important to identify what skills and content needs to be targeted.

Figure out how the child learns best: visual, step by step, discussing concepts etc.
2) Work the plan to make the student independent
Once we have established the target skills, content, and strengths of the student, I teach specific strategies that will help the students become independent.
Not only will the student learn the math content, but how they best learn.

The goal is that the student use the skills without my help and learn how to learn math!
